Qatar is building a new Metro system envisioned to be operational in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup games – and to serve the Qataris following that milestone. RAFT is providing comprehensive architectural services to one of three active train engineering consortia for the Administration and Support buildings that will manage and maintain the system, including administration and operations headquarters, maintenance and stabling halls, and the mechanical/electrical buildings that drive the system.

The architecture of the stabling and maintenance halls recalls the great 19th C European train sheds and updates them through the use of parametric environmental analysis software to imbue these desert sheds with enclosures that maximize daylight while minimizing solar heat gain and allowing for ventilation through natural induction – thereby maximizing their performance.
